A market on the move

Europe’s urban mobility landscape is undergoing rapid transformation, driven by sustainability goals, new technologies, and shifting commuter behavior. For one global consulting firm, Mobility as a Service felt like a road worth exploring. But with so many moving parts—legacy players, emerging vendors,  and different regional models, they needed a clearer picture before moving forward. That’s where Netscribes came in.

The objective

Our client’s primary objective was to unravel the intricacies of the Urban Mobility as a Service (MaaS) ecosystem in Europe. They hoped to gain an in-depth understanding of this market, spanning both legacy and innovative vendors; conduct extensive research on vendors offering Urban MaaS solutions, with a focus on identifying the most innovative players; compare and benchmark solutions and products offered by different vendors in the Urban MaaS domain; develop strategies for market expansion and growth based on the insights gathered; explore technologies leveraged by vendors, delve into platform architectures, and understand operating models; and learn from success stories of Urban MaaS implementations in benchmark countries mentioned in the client’s exhaustive list.

Mapping the MaaS landscape

Netscribes built a three-phase research plan to meet these goals. First came a broad scan of the European Urban MaaS space—spotting key trends, regulatory activity, and operating models shaping the category. From there, we mapped out a full vendor universe and narrowed it down based on innovation, scale, and relevance.

Next came the deep dive. We benchmarked shortlisted vendors—breaking down their product features, pricing, market reach, and customer base. Each profile covered everything from financials and tech architecture to how their platforms were being used in the real world. We also looked at what made them different—and why that mattered.

The final stretch focused on what was working elsewhere. We studied benchmark countries on the client’s list to see how Urban MaaS had been rolled out, which tech and models they used, and what could be applied elsewhere.

Built for the road ahead

The result of the project was a full view of Europe’s Urban Mobility as a Service landscape. The client walked away with a sharper understanding of the market, the players, and the tech shaping it. They gained real-world lessons from proven use cases—and the clarity to decide where and how to move next.

With the research in hand, the client refined their market strategy, strengthened their vendor lens, and moved forward with more confidence. Our growth consulting solutions helped them cut through the noise and find direction in a fast-moving Mobility as a Service landscape.
